Making a yoga bag - drawstring and strap

Today, in part 2 of 7, we're making the drawstring and the strap for the yoga bag.

The Drawstring
  • Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, wrong sides facing, and press
  • Open and fold one edge towards the crease in the middle of the fabric
  • Do the same with the other edge and press
  • Fold the whole thing in half again and press
If you're making the drawstring from one long piece of fabric, you can skip this step where you're attaching your pieces. Otherwise, if, like me, after doing all that folding and pressing, you realize that your piece was too short, you'll have to cut another piece and fold and press it like you did with the first one. After you've done that,
  • Pin pieces together, right sides facing
  • Stitch together (based on the picture, my seam allowance was between 3/8" and 4/8")
  • Press the seam open
  • Fold one edge towards the centre
  • Fold the other edge in
  • Fold the whole thing in half

  • Stitch along the length of the folded piece, about 1/8" from the edge
  • Tie the knots at the end of the drawstring
The Strap

  • Fold and press the strap the same way you did with the drawstring
  • Pin the strap along its length
  • Stitch along the length of the strap 1/8" (or as close as possible) to the edge
  • Stitch the other edge of the strap
  • This is the finished strap

That's it for today. Tomorrow, we'll do the pocket.
